Seminar on the Development and Construction of the College of Future Technology in Engineering Biology Successfully Held

On the afternoon of March 7, 2025, the College of Biotechnology at Tianjin University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, hosted a seminar on the development and construction of the College of Future Technology in Engineering Biology, as well as a joint meeting marking the conclusion of the "Biotechnology Cognitive Internship" for the 2022 cohort and the commencement of the program for the 2024 cohort. This event not only signifies a solid step forward by Tianjin University of Science and Technology in talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation but also marks the beginning of a new chapter in the construction of the College of Future Technology under the guidance of the "Outline for Building a Strong Education Nation (2024-2035)."
The meeting was chaired by Researcher Zhang Dawei, a member of the Institute's Council and Dean of the College of Biotechnology at Tianjin University of Science and Technology. He extended a warm welcome to all guests, briefly introduced the background of the event, and emphasized the college's mission and commitment in responding to the national strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education, as well as driving scientific and technological innovation and the development of new quality productive forces.
Zhang Yan, Deputy Director of the New Engineering Education Research and Promotion Center at Tianjin University of Science and Technology, highly commended the achievements of the College of Future Technology in Engineering Biology in talent cultivation and scientific research innovation. She expressed the university's full support for the college's development and looked forward to collaborating with all parties to achieve shared success. Hu Chungang, Deputy Director of the Graduate Department at the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, shared the significant role of industrial biotechnology in driving economic and social development and pledged the institute's full support for the construction of the College of Future Technology, jointly exploring new paths for scientific and technological innovation.
In the first session of the seminar, Dean Zhang Dawei presented the class flag to the 2024 cohort of the College of Future Technology. This flag symbolizes honor, responsibility, and expectations, embodying the school's earnest entrustment to the new generation. Jiang Yanxiang, a student representative from the Peisong Class of the 2024 cohort, expressed gratitude for the college's cultivation and vowed to become an outstanding biotechnology talent, contributing to the country's scientific and technological innovation. Subsequently, the college presented appointment certificates to class mentor representatives and full-time mentor representatives for both the 2024 and 2022 cohorts, demonstrating the college's emphasis on the mentor team and its care for student growth.
During the seminar on the development and construction of the College of Future Technology in Engineering Biology, Associate Dean Teng Yu'ou delivered a report on the college's construction and development, detailing its history, current status, and future development plans. She emphasized the college's important position and role in the national strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education. Teachers present engaged in in-depth discussions on the cultivation of students in the Peisong Class, exploring ways to optimize the curriculum system, refine the training program, and further enhance the quality of talent cultivation, providing more outstanding talents for the country's scientific and technological innovation and the cultivation of new quality productive forces.
Meanwhile, in another venue, the conclusion defense of the "Biotechnology Cognitive Internship" for the 2022 cohort was proceeding smoothly. Students showcased their internship achievements through various forms, deepening their understanding of the field of biological engineering and laying a solid foundation for their future learning and research. As an important project-based course combining theory and practice at the college, the "Biotechnology Cognitive Internship" bears the responsibility of cultivating students' practical abilities and innovative spirits. Through practical activities such as entering laboratories and participating in scientific research projects, students combined theoretical knowledge with scientific research practice, inspiring their passion and pursuit for biotechnology.
Finally, the 2024 cohort students visited the Science and Technology Exhibition Hall of the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, experiencing the charm and prospects of biotechnology up close. This visit broadened students' horizons and pointed the way for their future learning and research.
The successful hosting of this event not only showcases the fruitful achievements of the College of Future Technology in Engineering Biology in talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation but also injects new vitality into the college's future development. Looking ahead, the college will continue to uphold the principles of "innovation, collaboration, and win-win," promoting deep integration of obstetrics (Note: "obstetrics" here seems to be a mistranslation or typo; it should likely be "industry," "science," and "education" to form "industry-science-education integration"), actively responding to the national strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education and scientific and technological innovation policies, and contributing to the cultivation of more outstanding biotechnology talents and the development of new quality productive forces in the biological field.
